Gas powered UFOs

In 2006, during our Jetpack Jesus Nerdefest contest, I decided to recreate a project that I made as a kid. The goal of the contest was to keep a Jesus action figure aloft for the longest possible time. I thought I had a winner because everyone was going to use Estes-type rockets and the gas UFO I made as a kid would KILL a rockets time aloft. The worst thing is the one I built 34 years prior worked....

1974

When I was a kid I saw a Toys R US ad for the "Cox UFO", a flying plastic ring. I decided to build
my own. I dont remember any of the details that went into the design but I'm pretty sure there
was'nt much forethought. I do remember that it flew very stabily at around roof height until
all of its fuel ran out. I also clearly remember the thing gyrating violently in a circular path
until crashing - before I added the four canted "wings" to stabilize it. The wings, as I
remember it, pushed air down and outward. Wow, I sure its wrong but at the time my ideas
was "putting fins to push down at anb angle to create 'legs of air' to avoid tipping".
