Suffocation Box - Kinetic Art

In brief, this was a ceramics project that is deisgned to allow a teettering beam to rock back and forth based on the lift differnce between the two towers. Tea candles are lit in the two identical sculptures but any one time, one of the the units air intakes is sealed. The brass plate of the raised side of the articulated arm restricts all incoming air, almost sufficatinig its candle. The warm air rising from the unobstructed unit, healthy flame pushed up its side of the device due to it having more hot air than the nearly sufficated candle. Both peices were crafted by white porceline and faced with temptered glass.

Once the center structure was tuned to have its center of gravity above the pivot point slightly - the unit would cyclically teeter back and forth while one candle dies and the other rejuvinates. The teetering cycle was approximately 5secs per side.
